How to start a bed and breakfast

Welcome to the Saskatchewan Bed and Breakfast Association!

Message From the Executive Director

Welcome to the home of the Saskatchewan Bed and Breakfast Association.  Thanks for stopping by!!

Who are we?

We are the organization that represents most of the bed and breakfasts, guest houses and guest ranches in beautiful Saskatchewan.  These operations are right across Saskatchewan: in cities, towns, resort areas, rural areas and farms.  They are on the prairie, in the parkland and on the northern forest fringe.  Each operation is unique and makes a special contribution to the variety of experiences offered to our guests.  What is common to all of our members is that they love meeting people and inviting them into their homes.

What does SBBA do?

We promote bed and breakfasts and country vacations.  We love this province, and we want to invite more people to come and experience it.  We find that visitors really appreciate the personalized service and warm hospitality that they get from staying with our members, and they are assured an enjoyable stay when they see the Black Rooster.

What's the Black Rooster?

All of the SBBA members have had their property accredited to the stringent accreditation standards of the SBBA.  This means visitors are guaranteed a high level of safety, cleanliness and hospitality at any SBBA accredited facility.  Once a bed and breakfast or country vacation has passed the accreditation, it is awarded the Black Rooster, and can use it on its publicity to show that it has passed this rigorous test. Read the Code of Ethics we follow.

What else do we do?

We help and encourage people who are starting to get a bed and breakfast operation going.  This is an expanding industry and we are happy to see new people getting involved.  We can provide advice and suggestions, and link new operators with people who have more experience in the tourism industry.  We publish a newsletter, the Rooster Newster, four times a year, and we hold an annual conference with workshops of interest to our members.

What's so great about a bed and breakfast or a country vacation?

Visitors to Saskatchewan enjoy meeting the people who live here.  They often want to stay with local people who can tell them what there is to see and do, and can answer questions about local history, wildlife, events and local culture.

Business travelers find a bed and breakfast to be a "home away from home" when they are doing business, and many bed and breakfasts offer extras to business travelers such as Internet access or a meeting room.

Other people just like to get away from it all and to be pampered, and find a bed and breakfast to be the perfect escape.  Many operators have special packages - a romantic get-away or a honeymoon special.

Do you want to get in touch with your rural roots?

What better way than to stay at a farm or ranch.  Maybe you can even help with the chores or go on a trail ride.

I invite you to check out our diverse membership on this site.

They all offer wonderful experiences and first-rate accommodation.  And the Black Rooster symbol guarantees you an experience that will make you want to return again and again.

Bryan Tudor
